Public Discussion on Wilbur Fisk Sanders at the Montana History Museum

Benjamin Sanders will be conducting a public discussion on Wilbur Fisk Sanders at the Montana History Museum on November 16, 2023.

The title of the lecture is “Order Without Law: The Wilbur Fisk Sanders Story”

The Author:

Benjamin Sanders is the direct descendant of Wilbur Fisk Sanders and has committed thirteen years studying and assembling the most comprehensive collection of accurate information on the subject of his famous relative. He is a published artist, historian and data analyst with decades of research experience and brings an entirely unique perspective to Montana history.

The Lecture:

Montana’s first U.S. Senator, vigilante, hero or villain? Benjamin Sanders’ new book: Order Without Law looks for first time at the real story of this amazing patriot, abolitionist and champion of racial and social justice reform.

Colonel Wilbur Fisk Sanders has been mentioned considerably in many works on Montana history but has never been the subject of a comprehensive individual focus. Ben will discuss some of the aspects of the Colonel’s Civil War Service and his actions to free slaves; his involvement with the Vigilantes of Montana; General Thomas Francis Meagher; his efforts to defend Chinese emigrants in Butte and the cases of the wrongfully convicted and imprisoned Northern Cheyanne braves: Spotted Hawk and Little Whirlwind.

Ben’s lecture will be followed by an open discussion on the Colonel and welcomes any related topics.
